Maintenance of veh/eqpt/plants

Maintenance of ‘B’ vehicles (all vehicles) and ’C’ vehicles (all equipment & plants) are entirely different.  But in the sense maintenance is a main task to avoid unwanted off road and down time. The proper maintenance to veh/eqpt/plants is not only keeping them in good appearance and road worthy but also it increases the life of them by reducing tear and wear. So all driver and operator should be give good maintenance to all vehicles and equipment in its due time.
           
The maintenance task mainly divided into four tasks

1.       Running/daily maintenance:- this is further divided into three parts that are:-

a)        First parade:- This task should be done before starting the duty.
i)     Check and top up fuel, oil, water and bleed fuel system if required.
ii)    Clean wind screen, window glass and mirror.
iii)   Check tyre pressure.
iv)   Start engine then check Ammeter, oil pressure, clutch & brake pedal,                              light, indicator and wind screen wiper.
v)    Listen for any unusual sound, knocking and rattling from engine.
vi)   Check any leakage of oil, fuel & water etc.    
b)        Halt parade:-This should be carried out in a halt during a long run.
i)     Check and top up fuel, oil, water.
ii)    Check any leak of fuel and oil.
iii)   Clean wind screen, window glass and mirror.
iv)   Visual checkup of tyre pressure.
c)        Last parade:-This should be carried out after returned from duty.
i)     Carry out checks shown in halt parade.
ii)    Examine road springs for loose ‘U’ bolts and broken leaves.
iii)   If ordered. Carry out frost precautions (GMI No 2 Ref)
iv)   Enter mileage run, fuel and oil drawn in duty slip.
v)    Leave the veh clean.
vi)   Report if any abnormalities found with the veh, to MTO.

2.     Weekly maintenance:-This is for first four day’s weekly task from Monday to Thursday as under:-

            Task No: 1 (Monday)

a)       Body and Fittings:-Clean all body, cabin and check any loose of fittings and serviceability of components.
b)       Engine and controls:-Clean the engine thoroughly and check mountings properly. Check any  leakage of fuel and oil. Check any looseness in linkages and controls. Check serviceability of intake and exhaust system.
c)   Cooling System:-Check engine oil availability in water. Check radiator mountings, all hoses and clamps for tightness. Check fan belt tightness. Functioning of thermostat etc.

        Task No: 2 (Tuesday)

a)  Electric System:-Check tightness of Alternator, Self starter and its connections. Check fuses  and replace with its correct amp if required. Check overall wiring and its damages of insulation. Check all lights and its bulbs.
b)  Battery:-Check electrolyte level, Ensure air vent is clear or open. Terminals should be clean and tight with pole, use mineral jelly to avoid formation of salty. Never use any nail or iron pieces to tight the terminals. Never keep any metallic pieces on the top of battery.

            Task No: 3 (Wednesday)

a)   Suspension:-Inspect leaf spring and its center blot for damage. Check ‘’U” bolt tightness. Check shack absorber, rubber bushes and its serviceability.
b)  Transmission:-Check mounting bolt of Gear Box and Aux gear box. Check propeller shaft nut and bolt tightness. Check serviceability of center bearing. Check cleanness of rear axle breather. Check oil level, oil leaking from gearbox, auxiliary gear box and differential.
c)        Steering:-Inspect all linkages of steering for looseness. Check Hydraulic oil level in steering system.

            Task No: 4 (Thursday)

a)        Wheel:-check all wheel nuts for tightness. Check tyre pressure.
b)       Break and clutch system:-Check fluid level. Check both pedal level and tightness. Check proper function of brake and clutch.
c)       Hand Break:-Check all linkages for looseness or free play.

3.        Monthly maintenance:-this task to be carried out on every Friday of the month.

Task No: 5 (First Friday of the month)

a)          Tools and Equipment:-Clean all tools and apply oil. Check tools as per handing taking over note and get corrected if deficient. Replace damaged tools with new one.
b)         Mileage task:-Carried out if any millage task is due.
           
            Task No: 6 (Second Friday of the month)

a)          Lubrication:-Clean all grease nipple points and carry out greasing with suitable grease. Check up all oil levels and top up correct grade of oil if required.
b)         Mileage task:-Carried out if any mileage task is due.
 
            Task No: 7 (Third Friday of the month)

a)          Lubrication by 10 drops:-The following points to be lubricated.

i.
Throttle control joints
ii.
Clutch pedal bearing/bushes.
iii.
Brake pedal bearing/bushes.
iv.
Hand brake lever joint and links.

b)         Hinges and locks:-Lubricate all door hinges and lock.
c)          Mileage task:-Carried out if any mileage task is due.
             
            Task No: 8 (Fourth Friday of the month)

a)       Tightness:-Carry out a general checkup for tightness of all peripheral nut and bolts of main assembly and sub assembly.
b)       Mileage task:-Carried out if any mileage task is due.

4.        Maintenance based on Kilo Meters/ Hours

  Maintenance based on Kms/ Hrs is very important for all type of veh/eqpt/plants. The periodicity of maintenance is different for different type of vehicle/ equipment/ Plants. So it should be read/ selected separately for your respective veh/eqpt from the right side label here.  But some general points are as under:-

a.
Checking of fuel filter, air cleaner elements for its serviceability.
b.
Oil & filter changes of Engine oil, hydraulic oil, Gear box oil, 
Differential oil, Compressor oil & steering gear box oil etc.
c.
Conditioning of TTB.
d.
Tyre rotation.
