The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) create and maintains the roads, that serve the border areas of the Nation. It is staffed with a combination of Border Roads Engineering Service officers from the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) and officers from the Indian Army. The road-construction teams have to deal with harsh climatic conditions. The BRO builds and maintains roads at high altitude; Some of the BRO roads are built as high as 5,608 meters (18,399 ft) above mean sea level.
The BRO includes 17 Projects, which are divided into Task Forces, Road Construction Companies (RCCs), Bridge Construction Companies (BCCs), Drain Maintenance Companies (DMCs), Garrison Engineer (GE) and other functional platoons. The organisation also includes base workshops, store divisions, training and recruitment centers, and other staff in field areas.
The technical support team in the organistion is doing their best, even if the original spare parts are not available in the Store divisions and local market then the "Jugad arrangements / Thurlam setting" will run more than the original spare life with the equipments. The Charge Mechanic, Vehicle Mechanic, Charge Electrician and Electrician are the back born of the technical team. The JE (E&M) and Technical Officers are giving their suggestions and directions to the technical team as and when required.
